About Acupuncture

Warming moxa therapy is commonly used to help the healing process.

Traditional Chinese Medicine, or "TCM", is a system of healing that was developed over 3,000 years ago in China.  Acupuncture is one component of this system which includes herbal medicine, dietary therapy, massage, Qi Gong, and related meditation and breathing exercises.

Acupuncture is based on the theory that a constant flow of energy, called "Qi," is vital to the life and health of the body and mind.  When Qi is insufficient, or becomes blocked or stagnated, illness occurs.  Acupuncture involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body.  This stimulates and unblocks a person's Qi, helping to bring the body back into a balanced and healthy state.

Acupuncture can effectively treat a wide range of both physical and emotional conditions.  Acute and chronic pain, digestive complaints, skin conditions, internal illnesses, stress, depression, anxiety and insomnia are some of the many health issues that respond well to acupuncture treatment.  Early treatment with acupuncture can actually stop many of these conditions from becoming a chronic situation.

NY State licensed acupuncturists are trained and certified in Clean Needle Technique (CNT), practice Universal Precautions, and must adhere to applicable Health and Safety Guidelines the same as any other licensed healthcare practitioner.  Only pre-packaged, sterile needles are used.  They are used one time and then disposed of.

Most people find acupuncture to be a pleasant and relaxing experience.
